Excursions in Cookery

I have a recipe for you all.

Annie Laurie's Vanilla Pudding

Makes 4 servings.

In a 4 qt saucepan, blend:
2 T cornstarch
1/8 tsp. salt
1/3 c. sugar

Then whisk in:
2 c. milk

Heat at medium temperature until mixture boils.
Stirring continuously, let boil for 1 minute.

Pour half of mixture into separate bowl, and let cool for a moment.
Gradually add
2 eggs, lightly beaten,
while stirring continuously.

Pour egg mixture back into saucepan, and boil the whole thing for 1-2 minutes.

Remove from heat, and stir in:
2 T butter, slightly softened, and
2 t. vanilla.

Refridgerate for at least two hours.

When it doesn't set, pour it into pitcher and serve in glasses with nutmeg and ice.

:)

The recipe, when followed, works well. It's Betty Crocker's.
But when Annie made it, she tried something she should not have tried.

YOU figure out what that is!

Haha. I know.

But I'm not giving it away.

Nope.

No way.

Sounds like a summer version of egg nog. I'm not sure I'd want to try it, though. >:o)

Nothing that you do could possibly hold a candel to all of my cooking failures :D Once I put a cup of salt in some cookies instead of one teaspoon of salt. Another time I put in three pints of milk in a cake instead of three cups of milk or something like that.... Another time I didn't flour the pan for a cake, and yet another time I out WAY to much water in the oatmeal, not enough oats, and not enough sugar. That was some awful oatmeal... and that is just he beginning of my domestic talents!!

Yes, Ednella, this isn't the worst of mine either.

See, I know enough about cooking to know what will work and what won't.

Unfortunately, on that rare occasion when I don't know for sure that something will actually fail...

I'll try it.

In this case, I added the egg whites and not just the yolks.

LET THIS BE A LESSON TO ALL!

Ohhh, egg whites. *makes note dutifully*

How's your Rhetoric class coming along? I'm having fun in mine, although I'm outnumbered... there's only one other girl and at least four boys. ;_;

Rhetoric is fun. Style assignments will start appearing up here sometime soon, as I did my first one today. (HURRAY!)

I hope you're having fun with it, Elai. Have you made acquaintance with the Other Girl? :)

I'm the Only Girl in my Latin class, but there are nine kids in my Rhetoric class, and lots of girls. :)
