Short funny from Latin class. . .
The sentence was this--
aemilia maritum suum tardum excusat
So, I started translating (impromptu) in English. "Aemilia excuses her late husband..."
"HOLD ON!" says Mr. Spotts.
"What is a Late Husband in English?"
I don't get it.
But then it comes to me, that Aemilia's "late husband" is actually very much alive.
*hysteric laughter*
Class begins brainstorming alternative ways to say "late."
Delayed. Tardy. Delinquent. Player of Hookie.
The last two ideas were mine, proving what I have said all along, that I'm really unworthy of my class... But the first two suggestions came from my (brilliant) classmates, Seth and Tim.
In the end we translated it "delayed." And now I have no idea why I found it so funny.
