Oh and by the way...

we're back from vacation with--you'll love this Mari--50+ lbs. of blueberries. Yum.

For my birthday, Papa took me to Baker House used and new bookstore up in Grand Rapids and we found some cool stuff. One book, which I read on the way home (a 13-hr drive) was God's Passion for His Glory by John Piper, about Jonathan Edwards. GREAT BOOK. It had a short biography of Edwards, a summary study of his greatest works, a Why This Is So Relevant Today essay, and a character sketch, along with the complete text of The End for Which God Created the World, by the man himself.

The "only" other things we bought there were: complete set of Matthew Henry commentaries, A 3-volume set of Schaff's complete History of the Christian Church (I should have had this one before WHII class, but oh well. :P), Vine's Expository Dictionary of New Testament Words.

And that's it. I'm totally excited about all of them, but Pervinca was NOT impressed. (You went to the greatest Christian bookstore ever, and brought home TEXTBOOKS??) Oh, well. O_O

Our visit up at the camphouse was wonderful. The first night I drifted to sleep, still feeling like I was on the waves. We had a smashing storm one day, where the lake looked like a giant dark green gemstone, and we frantically closed windows with rain and whirlwind swirling around us...

Pervinca took lots of pictures. But none of the storm.

Nickel Creek's music video, When in Rome, is up on Launch, if you happen to have an account. But I'll warn you. It's excessively bizarre.

I just got my first email from Mrs. Howat about Rhetoric textbooks, and am now officially EXCITED!!!

About school, that is.

One last note. I love Fernando Ortega music. See, Mama played it a lot when I was really young, and I got into that sophisticated phase where I didn't like it because it was a guy singing and it was boring and so forth... but then I grew into a more mature teenager (oxymoron?), and suddenly I like it again. Especially the hymns and folk songs. He has a musical sensitivity suited to that stuff, his technique is well masked but there. . .

Mama says OFF. Good for Mama, and good-night.

Hey, thanks. That means I'm an immature little squirt. :)

But I always was compared to you, anyway, despite ages....

Those books actually sound interesting, especially the ones by Piper and Schaeffer. Schaeffer's church was a break-off from the RP church. Interesting, no?

His hymn arrangements are so good. I want to get his latest compilation cd containing the best of his hymn arrangements, but I don't have it. Alas. I only have ever other one of his cds, and must hear the hymns in their appointed contexts.
