You say you walk on water? I'm not impressed...
A book you should read: "Hiroshima," by John Hersey. If you haven't already. I had to read the first chapter for rhetoric class awhile ago.
So here's the latest laugh from my place. I'm about to pitch it, actually, because it is a recruiting letter from Southern Methodist University. (warning bell number one: it calls itself Methodist, which is actually synonymous with liberal)
I haven't bothered to actually read the letter, but here's the gist: The first paragraph is designed to almost promise me some sort of lofty merit scholarship (but not quite, of course). The second paragraph describes the benefits thereof:
(and I quote)
Presidents and Hunt Leadership Scholars receive full tuition or the equivalent, plus study abroad as part of their award. They also have the opportunity to hear and meet speakers on our Tate Lecture Series, which in recent years have brought to campus [--GET READY!--] Al Gore, Bob Dole, Barbara Walters, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Mikhail Gorbachev, Tavis Smiley, John Irving, and many others...
(Begging the question, Mr. Provost Sir: HOW can a university take itself seriously, and still put Al Gore at the head of their highly respectable Tate Lecture Hit Parade? HOW can your secretary be so grammatically inept as to put a singular subject, "Series," with a plural verb, "have"? How, How, How?)
:)
If you don't have a sarcastic sense of humor, this probably won't make you laugh. But I LAUGHED!
Have another smiley face, and happy thirteenth!
:D

Good grief. You can pitch that one, right? :)
Frodo, I *did* pitch that one. (My mom scanned it and was none too impressed. And as you can see, I was so out-of-sorts that all I could do was laugh hysterically.)
So much for seeker-sensitivity and special treatment for minorities, and all that, huh?
Indeed! The more people try to be diverse, the more ridiculous they look, in my humble opinion. :)
