~QUOTES~
(Speaking of Boys' Brigade) "I think they should combine the practical marksmanship unit with the bike riding... we'd have some good moving targets."--my dad

The Two Mystics:
Two mystics sat on a mountain, contemplating the universe. After twenty-five years of meditation and pondering, the first one spoke: "All is in all," he said.
Another twenty-five years passed. Finally the second mystic added--
"And, vice-versa..."
Dr. E. told this joke in class. It was so dumb that I found it funny...

The third quote is merely a verse of a song--
Oh, chocolate chip cookies, so high on the shelf,Hiding inside of the jar;I'm not tall enough to reach you myself,So near, and yet so very far...This is a "Lament for the Chocolate Chip Cookies" (from the Philadelphia Chickens--and I don't know if that's the title of the song precisely. The infamous love song to "Taylor the Latte Boy" reminded me of this one)
You can get the Insane Tack to sing it for you, if you like. And if she likes. o_O

Frac's birthday was yesterday. He turned six, and acquired a beautiful game of Battleship.
We enjoy it more than he does at the moment. As soon as he learns to play, he'll be the Bomb. (Pardon the expression.) But he's not feeling well, and he got so many other nice presents. Ah, well. Anyways. Off with excuses and on to the story.
Well, Brother2 and I were playing it together. I, a resident expert, started the match.
"I-1," I said.
"No... you haven't yet! We haven't started!"
"No, Brother! I--1!"
"Oh, ok...... HEY!!! That's a hit!!"
Yes indeed, folks. Very first turn. And by the way: I won.
Later Brother1, after I told him the story, played a game of Battleship with Brother2. He employed the same tactic, with exactly the same results, on exactly the same person. However, I doubt there will ever be a third opportunity for such nonsense.
My usually smart little brother (his name should be Aleck) is surprisingly dull at the art of battleship. Of course, he's sore about losing to me, and he won't play me again. Heh, heh...

That's the end of the silliness. Now, on to some other remarks on my own life...
(serious? nah... Boring? probably... trite? yeh...)
~Tack and I were listening to Alison Krauss' "Now that I've Found You" collection as we cleaned up the kitchen tonight, singing along, having a grand old time.. When we got to her gospel song with the Cox Family, we sang the duet--Tack sang the top line, I sang the bottom. And we sounded pretty good, except at the odd parts when our dull ears couldn't tell what was going on... And it was really fun.
~Tonight I also taught Frac how to play Battleship. I soon discovered why she guesses certain positions for my ships: That's where HER ships are! Despite her apparent lack of sound reasoning, she has a good grasp of which board is for which purpose, and she likes sticking in the pegs. O_O
~This morning, I spent two hours memorizing the masculine, feminine, and neuter forms of three irregular adjectives, in anticipation of a shortly-to-follow quiz. Well, somepeoples opted out of the quiz thingy, so it was postponed to Wednesday. Both good and bad that is--I should have spent the time doing Calculus! I have a test on Wednesday and a quiz on Friday. Though I don't believe God is the Great Vending Machine of the Skies, I do believe He has a hand in human affairs--to the extent that He can indeed help me through a Calculus test. Please pray for it. The very idea makes me quite anxious.
~Dr. E. let us see our final exam from last semester today. We've been pestering him about it for weeks. Every time I asked, he said "Miss Fisher, would you like me to tell you your score?" I would decline, slightly embarrassed. Then he'd say, "Would you like me to whisper it in your ear?"
And I'd explain that I'd like to see for myself what I had done, before I learned my score... But I had an inkling that my score was quite good, because Dr. E. had remembered it so well...
Well, it was good.
(proving once more my theory that the more time you have leftover at the end of your test, the better you do. I spent no more than 20 minutes on my Greek test, out of the two hours we had alotted...)
Speaking of good--I made this delicious milk cake for Frac and Tack's birthday. Fric and Frac helped me put it together. We separated the eggs, beat up the whites, added the sugar a bit at a time, then the yolks, some milk, the flour and baking powder. The little guys did most of it. Frac greased and floured the pan. Fric fetched ingredients. She stirred up the flour and baking powder in a bowl, measured the milk. I tended to the eggs. Frac poured the sugar a bit at a time, while I wielded the spatula and Fric turned the KitchenAid on or off, depending on what was called for.
Then--this is the best part--they helped me do the dishes! I washed and rinsed, they dried. While we worked, we watched the cake bake, and finished just in time to pull it out and put it on the table.
Fric helped me pour the milk mixture over the top of it, and we watched the air bubbles escape.
The whole thing was a health freak's nightmare--but who cares? We topped it with whipped cream and candles, and ate almost the whole thing, with the help of Mutti, Jon, and Jonathan.
That night we watched "Luther" together. It's an awesomely good movie. Except that Luther is made out to be tall and handsome. In reality, he was short and rather ugly. :) They also made him soft-spoken. He wasn't. Yet, his essential character was depicted very well. The film showed how he searched for the merciful God--and found Him in the Scriptures. He proclaimed this God and His Christ at all costs, in the face of certain death and persecution. And it depicted how, even when death seemed imminent, God protected Luther for His work.
So anyways-- Frac and Tack (don't you love the way their pseudonyms go together? I just learned this week that "pseudo" is the Greek word for "fake."...) had a great birthday. J&J presented them with a birthday card bearing the garish face of SpongeBob Squarepants--in token of a long and unending feud they have waged with Tack over the past weeks concerning the merits (or lack thereof) of our yellow, buck-toothed sea-sponge friend.
And I could just keep going here, but why?
